“Enjoy your job and build a career”

That’s a direct quote from your potential new boss. Coming in as a Production Manager, you’ll obviously be expected to carry out your usual activities, but when I asked what else would be expected of you, that was one of the responses I got.

This gap has been in the business for a few months, so one of your main responsibilities will be to further stabilise the Production Department and working to improve Operational KPIs throughout the business. The business moves quickly so experience of a fast paced/high volume manufacturing environment will be needed to ensure you can keep up with the demands of the environment.

You’ll have the opportunity to mentor and train the people in your team and the rest of the business by using a blend of your knowledge to educate them on the fundamentals of Continuous Improvement and Lean to work towards a more efficient workplace. By using your expertise in this area, you’ll also be responsible for studying current production processes & line layouts to find areas for improvement.

The culture within the business is one of transparency, open mindedness and honesty. They welcome new ideas (and actually want them) and are more than happy for you to really take the reins on this and make the role what you want it to be. Obviously, there’ll be a little bit of red tape, because you’re not being brought in to run the place and money doesn’t grow on trees, but you’ll have departmental ownership and plenty of autonomy to actually make your own decisions, whilst still having the support from above and below when you need it.

The company is growing nicely and you’ll be working with the rest of the senior team and everyone else in the business to essentially strengthen the foundations of the business for a really successful future. There’s also scope for you to potentially become the Ops Manager in the medium term, whilst also progressing your skills continuously due to their chunky training and development budget.

Salary wise, it’s paying up to £55k with decent pension, private healthcare and bonuses, plus other benefits. You’d be based in Bolton but you also get flexibility around hours and remote working.
