How does full autonomy and a challenge to sink your teeth into sound?

As the Operations Director for this business in Greater Manchester, you’ll be running the day-to-day Operations of the site, and being completely honest, there’s lots to do.

If you’re looking for somewhere with a pristine shop floor and perfect production processes, you may want to stop reading.

Now, here are a few things that could be perceived as negative, but with a positive spin on them:

  • Pretty untidy site with no set place for a lot of things – blank canvas to organise site to how you think it should be and the chance to make some easy improvements quite quickly, there are also plans to relocate and perhaps set up shift patterns, so you’ll play a big hand in this too.

  • Lack of consistency and standard procedures across the plant – the opportunity to stabilise and improve current processes and develop ways to improve efficiency and save (a lot of) money.

  • The company has been through a period of ‘messy growth’ over the last few years and certain things may have been missed out or overlooked – chance to use a broad range of your skills to ‘tidy up’ the growth and help them to prepare for future scale up as they look to expand in numerous ways.

I’m not trying to put you off here, but ultimately, it’s not just a ready-made site for you to sit still and get by in, it will be challenging and probably quite frustrating at times, but with a bigger challenge comes a bigger reward.

You’ll be expected to drive the financials and will have full P&L control, so effective communication across levels “above and below” is something you’ll need to be confident with. Being a good man-manager will mean you can easily get and keep people on board with the changes you start to roll out – enabling you to keep them consistent and standardised.

Ultimately, the other Directors are very aware of the fact they’re far from perfect, but their heads are screwed on and they have a clear vision of where they want to take the business. With that, comes buy in and embracement for change as well as the trust that you know what you’re doing, so giving you full autonomy to do your job and working with your boss rather than for them is what you’ll also get in return.

Salary wise, they’re looking at around £75k, but don’t let that alone put you off as they’d be open to a conversation around flexing it for the right person.
